Hotels in the eastern province are entirely booked for nearly three months, says official.

Visitors from Iran, Iraq and Armenia have started flocking Turkey’s Van province, helping the eastern region exceed the pre-pandemic figures, Daily Sabah newspaper said.

Provincial culture and tourism director Erol Uslu disclosed that Iranian visitors had shown great interest in the city since the beginning of the year.

The official said Van had exceeded the number of visitors received in 2018.

Hotels and businesses are back in business after the coronavirus had led to the closure of border crossings with Iran.

Most Iranian tourists arrive in March and April to spend their 13-day Nevruz holiday, the Persian New Year.

Hotels in the eastern province are entirely booked for nearly three months, said Van Commerce and Industry Chamber chair Necdet Takva.

Occupancy will continue until the end of November, Takva said, adding the province is also transit to other tourism regions.
