The new factory is part of a comprehensive plan to upgrade the public sector spinning and weaving industry at a total cost of EGP 25 billion

Egypt will start the pilot operation of a new spinning factory, dubbed “the world’s largest factory” by the government, in 2023, Ahram online news website reported, citing a statement by the Ministry of Public Business Sector.

The factory, owned by the state-owned Masr Spinning and Weaving Company, is constructed over 64,000 square metres in the Nile Delta’s El-Mahalla city.

The factory has around 185,000 spinning mills and a planned daily production capacity of 30 tons of fine-spun yarn and 25 tons of thick spun yarn.

Although the inauguration was planned for March 2022, the date was pushed back due to the repercussions of COVID-19 and spillovers from the war in Ukraine.

The new factory is part of a comprehensive plan already set into action by the Egyptian government to upgrade the public sector spinning and weaving industry at a total cost of EGP 25 billion ($1.28 billion), the news report said.
